“Vanderbilt University Medical Center researchers estimate that U.S. orthopaedic surgeons create approximately $2 billion per year in unnecessary health care costs associated with orthopaedic care due to the practice of defensive medicine…….The findings are from a national survey of 2,000 orthopaedic surgeons selected randomly through a list provided by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Of respondents, 96 percent report practicing defensive medicine, which accounts for 24 percent of all imaging studies, laboratory tests, consultations and hospital admissions among the survey’s cohort. ……..”
“Prevention of seizure-induced sudden death in a chronic SUDEP model by semichronic administration of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor” by Carl L. Faingold, Srinivasan Tupal, and Marcus Randall (doi:10.1016/j.yebeh.2011.06.015). The article appears in Epilepsy & Behavior, Volume 22, Issue 2 (October, 2011), published by Elsevier.
“A groundbreaking study published in Elsevier’s Epilepsy & Behavior, provides evidence in mouse model that drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors……..may reduce the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
SUDEP is estimated to be the cause of death in up to 17% of patients with epilepsy who die from their condition. Evidence for cardiac and respiratory causes of SUDEP has been presented, but no effective prevention of SUDEP has yet been developed……”

BANGKOK — Bombs discovered in a house in Bangkok were similar to devices used earlier this week against Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia, Israel’s ambassador to Thailand said on Wednesday, according to media reports.
“We can assume from the other experiences that we were the target,” Ambassador Itzhak Shoham told The Associated Press.
The cache of bombs was found in a rented house after a series of explosions rocked a residential neighborhood on Tuesday. Two men who the Thai police said carried Iranian passports were captured and officials said that two other suspects, whom they believed to be Iranians, were being sought, and that one of them had fled to neighboring Malaysia.
