A Pattern of Problems at a Hospital for Veterans
By JAMES DAO

WASHINGTON — “In an unusually strong letter sent to the White House on Monday, the office that handles complaints from federal whistle-blowers says it has found a pattern of problems at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center in Jackson, Miss., that raises serious questions about the hospital’s management practices.

The problems over the last six years include poor sterilization procedures, chronic understaffing of the primary care unit and missed diagnoses by the radiology department…………”

Ardeatine Cave Massacre:  http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007940

“…..The FosseArdeatine, or Ardeatine Caves, were the remnants of ancient Christian catacombs, and served as a convenient venue to carry out the reprisal shootings in secrecy and to conceal the bodies of the victims. …..The German police officials brought the victims into the cave and forced them to kneel in rows of five. The shooters then killed each one with a shot at close range to the base of the skull……….

Following the shootings, Priebke and Hass ordered engineers to seal the mouth of the cave through the detonation of explosives, killing any victims who had managed to survive and entombing the dead……”

Veteran’s Day: “Please join me in thanking our veterans for all that they have done — and all they continue to do — to protect our country and to help keep America safe.”

Honoring Our Veterans

Author:

Today, our Nation pays tribute to the millions of military veterans who have served the United States as members of our Armed Forces. We honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication you exhibited in protecting our country.

To veterans here at FEMA, although many of you are no longer wearing a military uniform, you have elected to continue to serve your country by joining the FEMA team – and we thank you for bringing your skills, talents, and experiences to contribute to the success of our mission year round, and especially during our current response to Hurricane Sandy.

And as part of that response, veterans from across DHS have also played an integral role as part of our larger FEMA team, making up the DHS Surge Capacity Force, who have been trained and deployed to New York and New Jersey serving in community relations and individual assistance roles.

I also want to thank all veterans and the many members of the FEMA family who continue to serve in the National Guard and Reserves and salute the many active duty service members and veterans in our partner agencies in federal, state, local and tribal organizations that share our emergency management goals.

On this day, please join me in thanking our veterans for all that they have done — and all they continue to do — to protect our country and to help keep America safe.

Tragedy upon tragedy in Afghanistan…..

Mass Shootings, Military

CNN, 3/13/12:  “President Obama….called the killing of Afghan civilians, allegedly by a U.S. soldier, outrageous and unacceptable, and he said he is heartbroken over the incident.

“The United States takes this as seriously as if it was our own citizens and our own children who were murdered,” Obama said to reporters at the White House. He said he directed the Pentagon to spare no effort in conducting a full investigation of what happened, and pledged that “we will follow the facts wherever they lead us.”

A unidentified U.S. soldier is accused of shooting nine children, three women and four men in a house-to-house rampage in villages near his combat outpost in southern Afghanistan on Sunday.”

How spies used Facebook to steal Nato chiefs’ details

By Jason Lewis, Investigations Editor,, in Washington DC

9:00PM GMT 10 Mar 2012

“NATO’S most senior commander was at the centre of a major security alert when a series of his colleagues fell for a fake Facebook account opened in his name – apparently by Chinese spies.

“Senior British military officers and Ministry of Defence officials are understood to have been among those who accepted “friend requests” from the bogus account for American Admiral James Stavridis.

They thought they had become genuine friends of Nato’s Supreme Allied Commander – but instead every personal detail on Facebook, including private email addresses, phone numbers and pictures were able to be harvested….”

By AUBREY BELFORD

JAKARTA, Indonesia — “Indonesia has sent its military to fight local militants for the first time in nearly a decade to send a “strong message” to the insurgents, who are shifting from suicide bombings to armed attacks on the government, the country’s antiterrorism chief said Thursday.

Military intelligence agents and troops have joined the police in hunting militants in North Sumatra Province in response to an attack by gunmen on a police station outside the provincial capital, Medan, last month that killed three police officers…..”
